Watson and Crick are great scholars in biology. They worked together
on studying the structure of nucleic acids. Nucleic acids have two types of
genome. One is RNA, and the other is DNA. They studied mainly about DNA. As a
result, they found that the structure of DNA is ‘double-helix’. Thereafter, an
article published by Watson and Crick in the scientific journal ‘Nature’. It
was the first publication which described the discovery of the double-helix
structure of DNA, using X-ray diffraction. Then they modeled the visible DNA at
first, and this model is called ‘Watson-Crick model’. They continued to work in
genetics, so they analyzed DNA sequence for a long time. Their achievements
improved the research of molecular biology. Finally, Watson and Crick opened
the era of the ‘Molecular Biology’.
